I Need A New Home Care Provider

There are good Home Care Providers and then there are…. the others.

If your Home Care Provider is one of those others then you need us. The good news is - you have every right to choose a new Home Care Provider, and we can make that process simple and smooth for you.

Ideally Home Care is an independent, family owned and operated Home Care service with over 10 years of experience delivering excellent Home Care.

We have a marvellous team of Support Workers and Care Managers and we know and understand the regions where we operate.

Signs It's Time to Consider Changing Providers

You deserve care that works for you, not the other way around. Here are some common signs that it might be time to switch:

Quality concerns are often the first red flag. If support workers are rushing through visits, missing important tasks, or you're seeing different faces every week, that's not acceptable.

Poor responsiveness is another concern. When you can't get someone on the phone, your concerns go unanswered, or scheduling changes feel difficult, it creates unnecessary stress.

The fit just isn't right. Maybe your needs have changed, or the provider's approach doesn't match your needs. In rural areas especially, you need someone who understands country life, not a city-based agency trying to manage your care from hundreds of kilometres away.

Your Care Team, Chosen With You

Ideal home care services start with a Care Manager who listens and a Care Plan developed in partnership with you to meet your needs.

The right Support Worker team is also critical. We have wonderful Support Workers and excellent staff retention. We work hard to match our Clients with a Support Worker who is “the right fit” for them, and we don’t rotate our team. You won’t get a constant parade of people you have never met before.

We also make the practical side easy. Once you contact us, we'll guide you through each step, handle the paperwork, and coordinate with your current provider.

You shouldn't need to become an expert in aged care administration just to get better support.

We start with a proper conversation to understand your situation, your routines, safety needs and what matters most to you, and we explain everything in plain English with no confusing jargon.

You will receive sincere, thoughtful care with a person, or a selected team of people, who are compatible with you - and of course you can request a change in Support Worker at any time.

Call us now, to speak with one of our highly experienced Care Managers, or you can send us an online enquiry and we will be in contact with you soon

How Does the Transfer Process Work?

Here's the reassuring part: you won't lose funding or face penalties for changing providers. Support at Home program funding belongs to you, not your provider.

Your current services can continue while you transition to your new provider, and any unspent funds in your package move with you.

What to Check Before Changing Providers

Before making the change, take time to review a few important documents:

  • Your current agreement will outline the process for ending services.
  • Your care plan will transfer to your new provider. This is your chance to start fresh with a provider who truly listens.
  • Your budget breakdown shows where your funding is going. Make sure you understand what you're currently paying versus what you could be receiving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch home care providers if I am unhappy with my current one?

Yes. You have the right to change your home care provider at any time under the Support at Home program. You do not need to give a reason, and you will not be penalised for making the switch.

Will I lose my government funding if I change providers?

No. Your Support at Home funding belongs to you, not your provider. When you switch, your budget and classification level move with you to your new provider.

Does it cost anything to change providers?

No exit fees apply when you leave a provider under Support at Home. Some providers build management fees into their pricing, so it is worth comparing these before you commit, but you should never be charged simply for leaving.

How long does the switching process usually take?

Most transfers take a few weeks, depending on your notice period and how quickly the paperwork is organised between providers. We aim to make the handover as smooth and quick as possible.

Will my care be interrupted while I switch providers?

With good planning, no. Your current services can continue while your new provider gets everything set up, so there should not be a gap in your care.

How much notice do I need to give my current provider?

This depends on your service agreement, so it is worth checking your current agreement first. Many agreements ask for around two weeks notice, but yours may differ.

What happens to my unspent Support at Home budget when I switch?

Any unspent funds in your budget move with you to your new provider. Your outgoing provider is required to share your remaining budget details so nothing is lost in the transition.

Can I keep the same support workers if I move to a new provider?

Sometimes, though it depends on who employs them. At Ideally Home Care, we focus on matching you with support workers who suit your personality, and we will always try to make the transition feel as familiar as possible.

Do I need to contact My Aged Care before I switch providers?

Not always yourself. Your new provider can usually help manage the transition and liaise with My Aged Care on your behalf, though it is always worth calling 1800 200 422 if you have questions about your funding.

What if I am still not happy after switching to a new provider?

You can always switch again. There is no limit to the number of times you can change providers if your current one is not meeting your needs.
